Herbal Medicine
Herbal Medicine is a safe, natural and highly effective form of treatment for health problems in both adults and children. Although often described as an alternative treatment or a complementary therapy, Herbal medicine is actually the most widely practiced form of medicine today, with over 80% of the world’s population relying on herbs for health.
It is often noted that a significant proportion of orthodox western medicines were originally derived from herbal medicines, actually over 25% of pharmaceutical drugs prescribed by GP's today are plant based! The main differences between orthodox and herbal medicine is that orthodox medicine chemically reconstructs single elements within a plant, either by being individually extracted, or synthesised unnaturally in a laboratory.
Herbalists however, continue to adhere to the philosophy that the synergy of the whole plant, 'as nature intended', is more effective than any one of it's isolated constituents. The active component of the plant is balanced by these other constituents, which actually support the beneficial action and reduce any negative side effects.
Allergy Therapy
There are many types of allergy therapy involving treatment by your GP or the purchase of over the counter drugs at chemists such as anti-histamines or nasal spray. These are often ineffective or lead to side effects such as tiredness, desensitivity of the mucous membranes or nose bleeds. The alternative which is much more practical is to find out what is causing the allergy which can then lead to successful avoidance of the allergen. If this isn't possible then oral desensitisation therapy can be used.
Allergy and toxicity testing can help with conditions such as:
